Bamboo flooring or tiles?
tiled FLOORING
Tiles are used extensively in the home, especially in the “wet areas” of bathrooms and laundries, for their water resistant properties and ease of cleaning. Actually, it’s rare to see flooring other than tiles – carpet, timber, bamboo, cork etc – in the wet areas. Tiles in the bathroom just seem right somehow, and the effects that designers are able to create are amazing. When it comes to other areas of the home, tiles can generally give a hard-wearing surface that will last, unless a raised pattern becomes worn in high traffic areas. Some of the designer tiles now in vogue provide textures and colours to complement any décor, however, care must be taken when choosing the latest “fashion” as fashions can be fickle. The old adage “GOOD fashion never dates” should be kept in mind.
A number of years ago, when consumers preferred tiles, they often used them throughout most rooms in the home, including family, dining, games and even the lounge room. However, Real estate agents nowadays will attest to the fact that prospective buyers think too many tiles make a house feel cold. So, if you’re choosing tiles, make sure you think about the areas that are appropriate. Also, the cleaning of the grout (in particular) of a tiled floor can be a very hard labour task even for the best cleaners. A basic steam mop won’t make an impact on this eyesore, so you’ll have to do some serious scrubbing and/or purchase one of those (very expensive) combination Steam/Vacuum Cleaners! Since these START at about $2000-$2500, you may want to budget for that in your flooring choice.
Lastly, the cost of tiles and their laying presents a critical dilemma since usually the more expensive tiles are substantially pricier to lay – check first before ordering, and confirm that surfaces are flat and clean enough. If you’ve ever had the misfortune in the past to discover that your floor surfaces are NOT up to standard for tiles, you’ll already understand the hassles, delays and costs involved in dealing with this issue. Renovations are often the worst, because you can’t rip up the old floor and see what it’s like underneath before you buy the house, and this is most often where floor problems arise for people wanting to tile a room (yes, this HAS happened to me before!).
bamboo FLOORING
Bamboozle have had many years of supplying and installing quality bamboo floors to the new home and renovation market, either conventional bamboo grain or “Bamwood” – a bamboo flooring that’s over 70% harder than jarrah, and gives the look and feel of conventional timber flooring. Bamboo flooring today is mostly supplied pre-finished and stuck direct onto concrete. Furniture can be moved back after only several hours, reducing disruption for renovators. Bamboo flooring has all the attributes of quality timber flooring – a warm look and feel to suit the most discerning of owners, and a look that can be improved after many years of service, if necessary, by sanding & polishing to give a traditional finish. As far as health and cleanliness is concerned, bamboo flooring scores high marks. Pets are disinclined to mess a hard floor, but it can be easily cleaned, however pets can find bamboo floors a bit slippy when rushing about! Bamwood flooring is scratch resistant and easy to clean. Many owners opt to use Enjo microfibre mops or a steam mop occasionally. The tight fixing method also means that an accidental spillage of red wine is readily cleaned up leaving no evidence!
